All You Need to Know About the Tiffany Blue Basquiat Painting

Tiffany & Co. announced a partnership with global artist Jean Michel Basquiat. Together they will create the “Tiffany Blue” Basquiat: The Untitled (New York City) painting for the jewelry company’s flagship store in New York City. The new Basquiat piece has been created especially for the store, and will be on permanent display there.

It was announced that the new artwork will be unveiled at a private cocktail event for Tiffany’s clients, but the general public can get a first glimpse of it when Basquiat: Boom for Real opens at Brooklyn Museum from May 17 through August 6 before traveling to New Orleans for a solo show at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art from September 3 through November 9.

“It is an honor to welcome Jean-Michel Basquiat’s work to the Tiffany & Co. This partnership is a great opportunity for both of us,” said Nicholas Campion, president of Tiffany & Co. “Jean Michel Basquiat’s bold use of color and unique style give him the ability to speak directly to our brand’s signature aesthetic.” His artwork has given us the opportunity to further strengthen and enhance our presence in New York City, where we established our flagship store 175 years ago.”

Basquiat’s work will be permanently showcased in Tiffany & Co.’s iconic flagship store on 57th St. in New York City, to mark the 40th anniversary of his collaboration with the company. “I hope this collaboration inspires people to view their world differently through color.”

Basquiat’s art is not about his black heritage, because he was not one to talk about it. He simply did paintings of what black people go through , but most importantly, it isn’t any different than what other cultures go through. The difference is that, because he was a “black” artist and much more relevant during the 80’s, people glorified his work and thought of it as something that only a black artist could create.
